Re: 3D Autos IRC-channel
As it seems some people are still refusing to use the channel, that includes some of the most active forum users, I will make another attempt to increase the user count.
Downloading and installing mIRC (which is an IRC client) is fairly simple. In case you would need any help doing so, just ask in this topic (or use a java client to connect to the #3dautos channel and ask, which I will get to later). To download mIRC, go to http://mirc.com/get.html. mIRC is in my opinion the best IRC client. It only works on Windows, other clients available that work on other operating systems are irssi (http://www.irssi.org/download, UNIX based systems, has version for Windows as well), XChat (http://www.xchat.org/download/). You can also download ChatZilla, which is an add-on for Firefox, so you can use IRC directly from your web browser (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/rt-messaging/chatzilla/).
Another way of using IRC from your browser is to use a java irc client (you will not need to download anything assuming that you have java installed, which most computers nowadays do). Seeing as the IRC java client that used to be here on the 3DAutos site is no longer available, you can use other java clients. One is GameSurge's own IRC client (available at http://www.gamesurge.net/chat/).
Let me show you how simple this is:
Directly when you go to the link, you should get a java loading symbol of some sort (and eventually a question whether to trust the application, in that case click yes/run/whatever), and finally reach the welcome channel on GameSurge (#welcome). This isn't where we want to be though, keep reading on how to get to the #3dautos channel...
On the image above, you can see the command to type to get to the #3dautos channel (/join #3dautos). Press enter and you'll get something like this:
You're now in the #3dautos channel, this is where all the action is.. although this is like midday/afternoon-ish and most activity takes place on the evenings. Some information on what you see; the list of nicknames to the right is the list of users who are in the channel. Those with a @ prefix (at that time, Felle and ChanServ) are channel operators; they have rights to kick/ban people amongst other things. The + sign indicates the user has voice, these users are basically just allowed to speak when the channel is moderated and stand out more than normal users.
That's how a message looks like, sent by Felle. On the right you can see that I typed in something in the "Change nick to" box. My default nickname was felle2 since this was set up from before, but if you join for the first time, chances are your nick will be something along the lines of Javauser1, Javauser2 etc. Simply enter the nick you want in the box and press enter. This will make it much easier for people to see who you are and recognize you
Here you can see my nickname being changed as well as me saying "hi!".
As you can see on the above image, messages is quite obviously typed in the wide box where you typed the /join command earlier.
That's pretty much it, have fun chatting and please say something in the channel when you manage to connect to make us aware you're there!
The address to this java client is http://www.gamesurge.net/chat/ -- if that one doesn't work for some reason there are numerous others available (try mibbit.com and connect to irc.gamesurge.net:6667).
If you have any questions, feel free to Private Message me or ask in this topic.
